Travel+Beauty: Memebox Special #9 Skincare Unboxing and Review

Just over a week ago,  2 Memeboxes that I'd ordered arrived; Skincare and Free From Oil & Trouble 3. I wanted to wait a little longer before posting unboxings so that I could try out the products and let y'all know what I think.First up, Memebox Special #9 Skincare ($29 + $6.99 shipping) and here's the description from the info card:

"This day and night skincare routine-in-a-box addresses all your everyday skincare needs. From pre-mature wrinkling and fine lines, large pores, rough texture, to dull and dry skin, this basic Skincare box is customized to reveal everything you wanted to know about Korean skincare! Trust the box. It’ll make everyday a good skin day!"

Product 1: Narsarang - Rose Balancing Toner - Sample 5ml (Full Size 50ml - $58)

Description: Nasarang's rose skincare series is renowned for its catch phrase, "high concentrate of the natural rose oil extracted from over 3 million Bulgarian Roses."  Some of you may questions how can 3 million roses possibly fit into a small bottle like that?  However, to make 1 g of top quality rose oil, you actually need more than 3000 g or organic roses. This Rose Balancing toner is thicker in its texture as it glides onto the skin almost like an ampoule, deeply moisturizing and brightening up your overall absorbency.

Use: After cleansing, pump out 1-2 times and apply the toner on your face with your hands.  gently pat it in for a better absorbency.

Thoughts: This smells so good! Obviously, it is rose scented; more of a fresh-from-the-garden fragrance than a soapy floral. It's different from a traditional toner as you pat the gel directly onto your face rather than using a cotton pad or spray. It's really light and refreshing on the skin, I'd definitely try other products from this range as it smells amazing and feels good on.

Product 2: Verikos - Advanced Power Tightening Cream - Sample 4g ( Full Size 75ml - $36)

Description: Highly enriched with lotus flower water, collagen, bifida ferments, and peptide components, the Advanced power tightening cream works not only to hydrate and nourish the skin but also to fight signs of aging and improve your skin's natural elasticity and glow.

Use: Apply the cream at last stage of skincare routine.  Use the spatula to take a small amount of the cream and using your fingertips, spread it softly over your face.  Pat it in for better absorbency.

Thoughts: To me, this smells exactly  like Ole Henriksen's Truth Serum which is not a bad thing. It's a silky cream that feels very moisturising but not at all heavy. I've tried this a couple of times at night and my skin feels great in the morning. Not sure I would buy the full size of this as I have other face creams I find more suitable for my oil-prone skin but if you have sensitive or dry skin, this would be really nice. I may keep this until fall and see if I notice more of a difference during colder months.

Product 3: Bosica - Bosicans Cycle Repair Wrinkle Spot - Full Size 15ml - $24

Description: This is a softly applying spot cream for treating lines and wrinkles on your face.  Packed with galatomyces, peony root extracts, and adenosine, it is gently on the skin yet very effective in filling in those fine lines.  It's especially recommended to be used around your eye bags because its anti-wrinkle formula's much stronger than any average eye creams!

Use: Take a small amount and apply it on areas with fine wrinkles.  Pat it in for better absorbency.

Thoughts: I admit it, I was confused by this product and only used it a couple of times after eye cream and on fine lines at night. Now that I realize it's supposed to be used as an eye cream I'll give it a go by itself for a week or two. It's a rich (but not heavy) white cream with a light powdery-floral scent. Really nice texture that feels rich but sinks in very easily , I'm interested to see how it works out.

Product 4: Benton - Snail Bee Hight Content Essence - Full Size 60ml - $18

Description: Instead of water, this facial essence uses snail secretion filtrate, bee venom and EGF to cleanse your rough, damaged skin from external stresses and pollution.  In addition to the skin-trouble care, moisture supply and skin tone improvement functions, it also help brighten up your complexion and remove signs of aging.

Use: Appl
y the essence generously over your face and pat it in for full absorbency.

Thoughts: The packaging reminds me of Kiehl's and it's a thin, clear gel consistency. I'm not keen on the smell of this but the whole world seems to be obsessed with products containing snail and bee "extracts". Honestly, the content doesn't bother me (I'll try any skin care product. No, really; stay tuned for an upcoming post on pig collagen) but I haven't noticed any great benefits using this. I'll stick with it and update if necessary.

Product 5: Dewytree - Tea Tree Porest Powder In Toner - Full Size 200ml - $26

Description: This is highly moist facial toner enriched with green clay and tea tree leaf extracts for treating blemishes and other impurities clogging up and enlarging your pores.  It's secret formula lies in treating enlarged pores without dehydrating the skin.

Use: Shake the toner bottle well to get the powder and the liquid layers mixed up. Wet a cotton pad with the toner and gently wipe it over your face moving from the inner towards the outer contours.  Leave the wet cotton pad over areas with excessively enlarged pores.

Thoughts: Fresh-smelling toner that you shake to mix. I've had a few toners like this in the past and have liked them, this one smells great and I enjoy the cute Pore-Forest word splice. Thankfully, it smells nothing like tea-tree (not my favourite fragrance), I've been using this in the mornings and haven't noticed a great difference but it is pleasant and refreshing to use. I like the suggestion of leaving the wet cotton pads on your face; does it actually shrink pores? No, but it does feel nice and is quicker than a lotion mask!
(Side note: I feel like this toner should have been switched with the one in the Oil and Trouble box? More on that later.)

Product 6: Dewytree - White Dew 7 Cut Extreme Serum - Full Size 30ml - $41

Description: Free of parabens, mineral oil, sulfates, trithanolamine, benzophenone, syntetic dyes, and talc, this super gentle facial serum is most suitable for those troubling with excess freckles, dark spots, uneven skin tone and sagging skin.  It will work to soothe, tighten, and brighten up your skin for a silkier, healthier-looking complexion.

Use: Pump out 1 drop of the serum and apply it on areas with uneven skin tone and darkened spots.  Pat it in for full absorbency.

Thoughts: This has been driving me crazy; I don't seem to be able to get much product out of the container! I've shaken it, tried twisting the dropper, pushed gently and vigorously but have had no luck. I've taken to using whatever is on the side of the dropper but each time I get annoyed and unfortunately have only used it twice. It smells nice enough and the consistency is good so I'll stick with it.

Product 7: Secret Key - Super Plumping Jelly Cream - Full Size 50ml - $38 (the info card states $77 but website shows $38 which seems more likely)

Description: A uniquely jelly-texture cream rich in extracts from world's top super foods- blueberry, orange, almond, broccoli, pumpkin, and salmon eggs- the Super plumping jelly cream aims to bring back your baby-face!  It will not only tree signs of aging and moisturize your face, but also work to plump up your face for a more naturally 3D look.

Use: Either at the first or the last stage of skincare routine, apply the jelly cream evenly over your face.  Gently roll your fingers onto the skin for massaging effects.  Apply another layer of the cream on areas under eye contours and along the smile crease.  You can also apply the cream on your neck for treating wrinkles and creases.

Thoughts: It looks and feels like... Jello!

It also smells so delicious, kinds fruity-floral, reminds me of 90's body spray in a good way. It's a little tricky to pick it up but luckily they provided a tiny spatula. It feels fresh and cooling on the skin but really, this is just a fun product. I imagine this would be fantastic kept in the fridge as a skin treat for those of you who live in hot climates.

Overview: Pretty good box with lots of interesting products to try out; I'm fairly happy with this. I would've maybe liked a cleanser instead of one of the serums but eh, I guess I should have picked up the cleansing box as well. I'm also wondering if the toner in this box should have been the one in the Oil and Trouble box as this seems to be targeted to those with large pores and oily skin.
Shipping was really fast again; around 4-5 days, I'm not sure if express shipping is really worth the extra $$$. As for the value of this box; I don't care! I know a lot of people question the pricing of the products in relation to the Memebox website, online and physical stores but it's not something that bothers me; I buy the boxes so that I can try out things I might not be able to otherwise.
